Sheila V. Graham - Deputy Chair

Dr Graham obtained her first degree in Biochemistry from the University of Glasgow then carried out her PhD in gene regulation in leukaemia at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research. Following this she changed fields and worked on gene regulation in African trypanosomes, first as a postdoc, and then as a staff scientist in the Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology in the lab of Professor David Barry.In 1997 she took up a lectureship in the Institute of Virology at the University of Glasgow where she began studying the gene regulation of human papillaomvirus type 16 which causes cervical cancer. She is now a Reader in Tumour Virology and Head of the Virology degree at the University. Her main interests are RNA-based mechanisms of gene regulation and the cell biology of tumourigenesis.
